Hundreds gathered at Glen Island Park for a vigil to remember the New Rochelle woman who went missing a week ago and was found dead Tuesday.
Attendees embraced, lit candles and sang songs in honor of Valerie Reyes, 24, whose body was found in a suitcase near the side of a Greenwich, Connecticut, road this week.
Reyes had been reported missing to the New Rochelle Police Department and was last seen on Jan. 29 around 9 a.m. Her family says she left her home on Colonial Place eight days ago, and no one had heard from her since.
Greenwich police say her family was advised of the positive identification of her body Wednesday night.
Police in Connecticut say they are working with the New Rochelle Police Department and other law enforcement agencies at multiple levels and have engaged a variety of resources to assist in the investigation.
Reyes worked at a Barnes & Noble in Eastchester. Her mother says she had struggled in the days before she went missing due to a failed relationship.
