Some of the money raised during a 5K in honor of a toddler who died earlier this year will be going to charity.
Gabriella Boyd was just 2 ½ years old when she died under circumstances that are still unknown.
News 12 reported in April that Village of Mamaroneck police responded to 507 Chestnut Ave. after receiving a 911 call that someone was dying. Upon arrival, officers discovered the motionless child in her bed. While trying to revive the girl, authorities say the child’s mother Cynthia Arce attacked two officers with knives, slashing them. A third officer shot Arce after Tasers failed to subdue her.
Arce pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge.
The Gabriella Boyd Memorial Foundation announced that it will be donating $1,000 to the Humane Society of Westchester due to her love of dogs. Her father says he hopes the foundation will continue raising money and helping families.
The next fundraiser, a basketball tournament called Hoops of Gabby, will be held in November. The family hopes to make another donation in December.
