This very busy weather pattern with storm chances every couple of days continues this week with three storms that the entire News 12 Storm Watch Team is keeping a close eye on for you.
Today will be dry and cold with high temperatures just above freezing. Please just watch out for some areas of patchy black ice.
Our next storm chance tomorrow evening into early Wednesday morning is a very close call for Long Island. I would plan on a coating to a couple of inches of snow right now, moving in after 8 p.m. tomorrow. That said, this one is a nail biter of a forecast for Nassau and Suffolk counties with the storm passing to our south and any even minor change in track will change snow totals. The most likely scenario at this time is still for a period of light to moderate snow that will bring up to a couple of inches of fresh snow and allow for slippery travel Wednesday morning.
Wednesday afternoon we will catch a temporary break before another storm arrives with a brief snow or wintry mix that will change to rain into Thursday morning.
Beyond that, Thursday afternoon through early Saturday afternoon looks dry. There is yet another storm threat Saturday evening through all of Sunday. This one, on current track, looks like mostly rain with a possible end as a period of snow as the storm pulls away.
The entire News 12 Storm Watch Team will have frequent updates on all of this for you on-air, on social media and of course the News 12 App.
FORECAST:
TODAY: Sun and clouds. Cold and dry with a northwest breeze around 5-15 mph. Highs around 34.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy, cold and dry with lows around 21.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Much of the day is dry. A storm will pass close to Long Island off to our south at night through early on Wednesday. On current track, expect up to three inches of snow and slippery travel. If the storm tracks more to the south, snow totals would be much lower. If the storm tracks a bit more to the north, totals could go up slightly. As of now, one of two inches of snow is most likely. This is a close call for Long Island. Highs around 35. Lows near 25.
WEDNESDAY: Early light snow tapers off through mid-morning. Slippery travel possible. Highs around 35. Mostly cloudy and dry during the afternoon, but a brief snow or wintry mix will move in during the evening. This will change to rain into Thursday morning. Lows near 32.
THURSDAY: Early morning rain tapers off through mid-morning. Highs around 42. Lows near 25.
FRIDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 35. Lows near 23.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Highs around 39. Lows near 34. Rain is possible to develop during the evening.
SUNDAY: Cloudy with rain likely. Rain may end as a period of snow as the storm departs late. If the storm track changes, the type of precipitation and timing for Long Island can change, but this one looks to be more wet than wintry at this time. Highs around 45. Lows near 20.
