FORECAST:
This will be a significant snowstorm for Connecticut this weekend as confidence increases. It looks like there could be a lot of snow. Temperatures will be extremely cold going into the storm, which will make the snow extra light and fluffy, increasing totals all around the area.
With the News 12 Storm Watch Team's snow map, western Connecticut could see about 12 inches of snowfall and potentially up to about 18 inches up north. Temperatures will remain cold during the duration of the storm, but southern Fairfield County will need to be watched for any mixing.
The forecasted storm track is still taking a more northern path, closer to the tri-state area, and this means moderate to heavy snow could fall. Warmer air will try to slide north up through New York City, and if this happens, that means some ice or rain and totals could be slightly lower.
A strong cold front will deliver an arctic blast for tonight and Saturday. Temperatures could be record-breaking on Saturday. Wind chills could be as low as 10 to 15 degrees below zero Saturday morning. Temperatures won't rise above 20 degrees during the day.
When the snow arrives on Sunday, temperatures will be around 10 degrees, rising into the lower 20s during the day and then the upper 20s at night.
Prepared for frigid days ahead, as temperatures will stay below freezing all next week.
A small change in the storm track could dramatically change the forecast. Stay with the News 12 Storm Watch Team several times a day for more information about how this storm will impact you.
