The Stony Point community is grieving the loss of Stu Gates, a devoted firefighter who passed away surrounded by family on Nov. 15 at 95.

Gates dedicated 80 years to firefighting and held leadership roles in several organizations, including the Wayne Hose Fire Company, Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association, Hudson Valley VFA and New York-New Jersey VFA.

Stony Point honored Gates' commitment with a street dedication in June.
