Spring isn't all about baseball and fresh flowers.
Stink bugs are now waking up from winter and trying to make their way out of many homes across the Hudson Valley.
Experts say the bugs tend to spend the winter in dark spaces such as attics or basements. They recommend getting them out of your home carefully because when squashed or disturbed they emit a foul smell. "Stink bugs don't cause any damage to a regular residential home aside from emitting a foul order. They do not sting or do not bite or cause any damage to any curtains or furniture or anything like that. The only damage they would have is if you crushed them, that's why I would recommend vacuuming them up," says JP McHale, of the Pest Management company.
McHale also recommends making sure window screens are not broken and attic vents are sealed so the stink bugs cannot get back into your home come fall.
