State officials are looking at locations all around the state, and the
Hudson Valley, where people will be able to go get their
COVID-19 vaccinations once more doses becomes available.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling for a retail network of public
distribution sites that will be available for essential workers and the general
public, to get the vaccine once the federal government increases the number of
doses sent to New York.
Part of the plan includes setting up drive-thru sites
at SUNY and CUNY schools around the state, and the Jacob Javits Center in the
city.
"We are building a volunteer corps. We have already received 882 students
now that will step up, who can actually help administer a vaccine through the
state of New York -- SUNY students giving back," says Jim Malatras, chancellor of the
State University of New York.
Other locations include
pharmacies, health centers, county health departments, urgent care clinics and
private doctors.
There's also talk of pop-up
sites at community centers and churches.
The
governor says that in the Mid-Hudson region there are already 549 provider
sites who plan to administer vaccines.
