State Senate: Weber wins District 38, Harckham takes District 40

Some of the New York’s State Senate races in the Hudson Valley were close.
Republican challenger Bill Weber has unseated incumbent Elijah Reichlin-Melnick (D) in the District 38 race rematch. Weber took home 51% of the vote.
Reichlin-Melnick narrowly won this seat back in 2020 and redistricting gave Weber a better shot this time. In the new district lines, the share of voters who support President Joe Biden shrank.
In the District 40 race, incumbent Peter Harckham (D) defeated Gina Arena (R) 58% to 42%.
