A state Senate committee report has identified shortcomings in the permitting process for Competitive Power Ventures' natural gas-fueled electric generating plant in Wawayanda.

The facility has operated without a required air permit since 2018, despite court approval.

Sen. James Skoufis (D-42nd District), Investigations Committee chair, outlined deficiencies allowing the project to advance.

The report recommends providing localities with resources to ensure proper oversight and expanding the state Department of Environmental Conservation's workforce to effectively handle inspections and enforcement.
