State Sen. Terrence Murphy saw firsthand the devastation in Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria caused last month.
After hearing from constituents, Murphy, who's a physician, assembled a team of medical professionals and brought 1,000 donated vaccines to hard-hit villages earlier this month. He spent about 72 hours in Puerto Rico.
Murphy set up an emergency clinic and met with seniors and children, among others in need.
The dire conditions present on the island territory have not dampened the Puerto Rican spirit, Murphy says.
"Their hearts are still big, their spirits aren't broken," he says.
