State police: New City man assaulted police investigator at SUNY New Paltz protest

New City resident Aiden O'Brien, 20, is in custody after allegedly assaulting a New York state police investigator during protests at SUNY New Paltz.

Police charged O'Brien for reportedly hitting a state police officer with a metal Gatorade bottle while law enforcement dispersed the encampment on May 3.

The investigator sustained injuries requiring several stitches above his eye.

O'Brien is currently held at Ulster County Jail, with bail set at $5,000.

Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the alleged crime to contact the police.
