Staples High School’s tennis team has become a dynasty thanks in large part due to its coaching.
Wreckers’ head coach Kris Hrisovulos has led his boys to five straight state titles in Class LL. And now he’s the one being recognized for his outstanding work as he is a finalist for the National Tennis Coach of the Year.
Hrisovulos, a Staples alum, was selected as one of the eight candidates from a group of 50 coaches, one from each state.
"I’m truly honored,” said Hrisovulos, a former soccer and tennis standout. “I took this job to give back to the town...and to give back to the program...didn't think I’d be here this long. The accolades for me is just gravy and for me without the boys. I wouldn't have been able to do this without them.”
Hrisovulos will find out in June if the award is his.
