Somers is celebrating after its D-14 cheerleading squad earned a spot at the American Youth Nationals competition in December.
The team recently won its regional event despite one of its stars breaking her arm three days earlier.
“They’re just a special group of kids and I tell them all the time that they have something no one else has. A lot of people have good stunts, but they bring something to the mat nobody else brings,” said co-head coach Stephanie Sullivan.
“We all are family. And we bring that from the mat to school to practice to comps. Our bond brings more to the routine,” said cheer member Tessa Sullivan.
