Nearly 100 Spring Valley residents are trying to pick up pieces today after a devastating fire in their apartment building on Wednesday.
Fire officials say the fire broke out around 1 p.m. at Country Village Towers, located at 101 Kennedy Blvd.
Responders arriving at the scene saw flames coming out of a seventh-floor apartment.
They say that the smoke spread down the hall, but they believe people keeping their doors closed helped save lives.
Officials say people were trapped, but firefighters set up ladders and rescued everyone in the building.
Firefighters say four people went to the hospital and several others can't return home. "It's terrible. This is terrible news. I'm really sorry for those people. That could happen to me too, you know?" says neighbor Nixon Lherisson.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced families. It can be contacted by calling 877-RED-CROSS.
