A 44-year-old man became entrapped in a commercial landscaping machine Tuesday in Orangeburg. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.
It happened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday at Organic Recycling Inc. off Route 303. Officials say the machine is used to grind mulch.
Details surrounding how the Spring Valley man became entrapped were not immediately available.
The building that houses Orangetown's Department of Environmental Management and Engineering sits adjacent to where the incident unfolded.
Leaders with the department say, two people working inside are also members of nearby fire departments. They had the tools they needed and ran to help.
"They were instrumental in saving his life," says Commissioner Eamon Reilly, who is with Orangetown's Department of Environmental Management and Engineering.
The man was taken to Westchester Medical Center. His identity hasn't been released.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating. People working inside the office at Organic Recycling Inc. had no comment for News 12.
