The appearance of Westchester County Executive Andy Spano's son in an advertisement advocating the end of county government has prompted many to wonder: Just how big is the movement?
There are two groups taking different approaches toward the same goal of eliminating county government. Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and a newspaper publisher, Sam Zherka of the Westchester Guardian, are leading the efforts.
But some say getting rid of county government in Westchester would not be easy given everything in its purview. Westchester Legislator Judy Myers says county government could be much more efficient if it underwent changes.
"Could we as a county perhaps ask all of the municipalities to go in on a larger study of consolidation?" she asks. "I think we may be moving in that way."
