A young Bronx resident created an app to help end hunger in New York City.
Andra Tomsa created the app Spare Change NYC. The app asks New Yorkers to round up their bill when they are out eating or drinking to then donate the money to the Food Bank for New York.
The food bank is then able to take every dollar and convert it into four meals for hungry New Yorkers.
The app also rewards users for their philanthropy by offering rewards like free drinks, appetizers, and discounts.
Participating restaurants believe the app is not only good for business, but serves as a reminder that not all can afford a good meal.
Five Bronx businesses are currently participating in the initiative.
The Spare Change app is currently available for free on the iPhone.
