Residents of the Sound Shore village of Mamaroneck are not taking any chances, despite projections that Hurricane Joaquin will not make landfall on the East Coast.
Harbor Master Joseph Russo, who oversees more than 500 vessels within the waterways of Harbor Island, sent an alert to all boat owners.
"Have all your lines secured on the dock, your batteries charged, your pump running correctly," says Russo.
A shipment of sandbags were available, along with flood pumps and batteries, at Brewer's Hardware on East Boston Post Road.
Darlene Green has lived in the community for nearly 50 years. She says when it comes to storms, all she can do is wait.

"If it comes, it comes. If it don't, it don't. What are you going to do about it?" says Green.
