Police have charged a Mount Vernon man in the brutal beating and stabbing of his elderly mother.
According to police, 38-year-old Alfred Stardivant beat his 81-year-old mother, Queen Stardivant, so badly Thursday that she suffered a fractured skull and had numerous defense cuts on her hands. A neighbor called police after they say Alfred returned a borrowed cell phone with blood on it. He was arrested at Lincoln Hospital where he went for injuries to his hands after the assault. Stardivant was arraigned on first-degree assault charges.
Queen Stardivant was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where she is listed in stable condition. Police are investigating the motive for the attack.
