Somers community helps 7 siblings who lost both parents

The Somers community is rallying around seven siblings who lost both of their parents.
Their father, Clint Herbert, died in a head-on collision in 2016, and their mother Dawn died of a heart attack last Thursday.
Kenny, who is 25 and the oldest of the siblings, has now assumed the role of guardianship for his six brothers and sisters, ages 7 to 24.
His 24-year-old brother Stephen says the house where they all live needs a lot of work.
"The hardest thing is keeping the house and kids together. We are working on all of that," he says.
Nina Collins, a close family friend, stepped up to start a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral costs and fixing up the family home.
"We want them to have a safe, happy shelter. We all take that for granted. For Kenny to have to think about the boiler breaking in the middle of the night, that's not a good night's sleep and they don't have hot water to take showers in the morning," says Collins.
In addition to the GoFundMe page, the family says they are overwhelmed by the support that they received from the community of Somers. Simple gestures like a phone call and people delivering meals have meant a lot.
The family says nothing will ever replace the loss of their parents— but knowing a whole community is behind them makes all the difference.
The GoFundMe page for the Herbert family raised over $39,000 in just its first day.
