While Europe may still be closed to American travelers, many places in the Caribbean and Latin America are open.

Michele Weis, of Caprice Travel, says people are getting the "itch" to travel and the Caribbean is the No. 1 destination right now.

The Bahamas, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama are all welcoming tourists, but with some precautions.

Panama opened last week. Visitors need to get a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of arriving and sign a sworn statement saying they're healthy and that they'll comply with sanitary measures from the health ministry. Once there, everyone's required to wear face masks in public.

Not everyone's comfortable heading to further destinations just yet.

"So, internationally, I'm not really too sure about it. I would be fine with traveling across the country, though," says traveler Dylan Ralph.

Other travelers say the precautions in other countries don't make much of a difference - the flight itself is their concern.

The CDC says most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on flights because of how air circulates and is filtered on planes.

It does recognize that the risk is higher when sitting within 6 feet of others for hours at a time.
