A veterinarian is giving tips about how to keep your precious pets safe during Monday's highly-anticipated solar eclipse.

Dr. Christina Canis is a staff veterinarian for the VCA. She says it's best to keep your furry friends inside during the eclipse.

Canis says animals don't have any knowledge that the event is happening and adds that they aren't curious about it either.

"They might be a little more nervous about crowds and their excitement that their humans are feeling," Canis says. "It would be safer for them to keep them indoors in their natural, calm, relaxed environments."

If your pet does happen to look up at the sky on Monday, Canis says the risk is really low that your pet could injure their eyes. However, if you're concerned about this, she recommends shutting your blinds to keep them even safer during this time.
