Bronx residents were given the chance to voice their opinion on the postal service proposal to re-route the Bronx mail and close down three post offices in the borough. The United States Post Office says having Bronx mail sorted and processed in Manhattan will reduce expenses and improve services. However, postal workers say the improvements should be made within the standing post office at 149th street to make their services more efficient. They say this change will only slow down the delivery process and could adversely affect people those who depend on it most, like the elderly. The United States Postal Service says the plans have not yet been finalized. If the plans are approved, the general post office will remain open in the Bronx for purchasing stamps and money orders and postal workers will be reassigned.
