Small Business Saturday is here – and residents are showing why shopping local matters.

The day highlights a major truth – nearly half of America’s workforce is employed by small businesses, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. In Mount Vernon, that connection between customers and business owners runs deep.

“Suitman” Jared, co-owner of The Suitman, says those who walk through his doors often become “family and friends.” Residents like Eddy Fountain say supporting small businesses gives owners hope — and strengthens the community.
