A New Windsor couple has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $3.4 million from New York’s Medicaid program, officials said.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says Rohail Raja and his wife, Sharma Alam, admitted to the scheme.
Prosecutors say the pair owned two Medicaid transportation companies, Unique Class Limo Inc. and SNR Limo Inc.
Authorities say the companies fraudulently billed the state for transportation services that either did not happen or were not performed as described.
Raja and Alam each admitted that $3,434,730 was stolen through the scheme.
Both are expected to be ordered to pay restitution.
Prosecutors say if $1 million is paid before sentencing, they will recommend Raja serve 4 to 12 years in state prison.
