Shots were fired outside of a day care center in New Rochelle in broad daylight Tuesday, according to police.
Police say at least two men in separate cars fired shots at each other in front of the New Rochelle Day Nursery on Clinton Avenue around 1 p.m.
Westchester County police spotted one of the cars on McLean Avenue in Yonkers. They say a man exited the car and attempted to run while holding a backpack. Officials say the backpack contained a gun.
Officials say that man is currently in the hospital after injuring his leg in the chase.
Authorities say that the other man checked himself into Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital with gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and arm.
None of the children in the day care center were injured, and no evacuations were necessary.
Police say they believe another suspect may still be at large.
