As wind chills reach dangerous lows, homeless shelters in Yonkers are adding beds to keep homeless people off of the streets.
News 12's Rebecca Solomon was outside the Sharing Community in downtown Getty Square. The Sharing Community is a church-sponsored, community-based organization in Yonkers. It operates over 18 programs that care to the homeless, hungry and ill residents of southwest Yonkers.
"No one has to be outside. We take in everybody, so you've got somewhere to go. It's a good feeling to know we're here so nobody has to be outside, nobody freezes," says Jasper Cokely, of the Sharing Community.
The shelter is open 24 hours a day.
