With the temperatures dropping Monday night, one Yonkers agency is opening its doors to give those in need shelter from the deep freeze.

The Sharing Community on Hudson Street has used its dining room as an overnight shelter since January of last year. At least 30 homeless people, who were displaced due to policy changes at other shelters, have been staying there. Now, as temperatures drop below freezing, the deputy executive director expects more people to come in.

The deputy executive director says he only has a few cots and chairs to offer as beds, but says anyone can come in to stay on the floor. Some people who stay at the Sharing Community say they don?t mind sleeping on the floor, as long as they aren?t outside. The Sharing Community plans to continue to keep its doors open to the homeless in need during this cold spell and any others this winter.
