The stench of human waste has caused respiratory problems at a Soundview public housing building, according to tenants.
Residents at Clason Point Gardens on Metcalf Avenue say plumbers regularly have to pump sewage out of their building. In addition to areas being water logged, some tenants complain the unpleasant smell wafting through the air has led to breathing problems and many sleepless nights. They even believe the air might be toxic. The New York City Housing Authority admits sewers frequently back up, but it says it promptly fixes the problem.
Residents say they are exploring the idea of filing a class-action lawsuit due to the negative health affects. A public meeting is scheduled Friday to assess how many tenants are experiencing ailments.
