Severe weather is shutting down many coronavirus testing sites across the region.
According to News 12 meteorologists, there is both a high wind and coastal flooding advisory for Westchester on Monday.
State police say the testing site at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle is closed today. Officers say they will remain on the site 24/7.
The New Rochelle site was also temporarily closed over the weekend due to high winds, according to the state Department of Health.
Those who had appointments will be notified by email or text and automatically given a new date and time. People can also choose to call the health department and reschedule.
The state announced 8,000 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday. This includes nearly 600 new cases in Westchester, which brings the county total to just over 19,000.
The closure comes as the need for testing statewide is only growing.? Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling on the federal government to increase its testing capacity.? "We have to also expand testing. One of the ways we want to do that is by executive order. We're going to expand the number of people who are eligible to do the antibody test. We have state regulations that says who can actually do the antibody test. There are two tests, one is the diagnostic test, the other is the antibody test. The antibody test tells you if the person had the virus and got over the virus."?
?
The site is expected to reopen once the weather passes and it's safe to test again.?
Officials across the state say to check with your local health officials to see if the testing sites in your area are also affected by the weather.
