Services were held for former Somers Fire Chief and Commissioner Irwin Schriro.

Schriro died Sunday at the age of 63 after a short illness.

Irwin joined the department in 1987 and was an active member for 36 years.

Services for ex-chief Schriro will be as follows:

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Joseph Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac.

A fire department service was held at 7 p.m.

News 12 is told Schriro was highly respected for his knowledge and experience, but also because of his friendly demeanor and willingness to help others.
