Motorcyclist seriously injured in Sunrise Highway crash with mini school bus

It happened around 1:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes at Exit 48.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a mini school bus on the Sunrise Highway, Suffolk police say.
The collision happened in the eastbound lanes at Exit 48 around 1:07 p.m. It closed all lanes on the roadway near Locust Avenue in Sayville. They reopened at 4:30 p.m.
According to police, the mini school bus was struck on the rear driver's side by a 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Mark Pizzo.
The 56-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma resident was thrown from the bike and transported to NYU Langone Hospital for treatment.
The bus driver and an adult passenger were not injured.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information about the crash was asked by police to call detectives at 631-854-8552.
