Mutilated birds found near roadside in Kent

An investigation is underway in Putnam County after mutilated birds were found on the side of the road in the Lake Carmel area.
The discovery was made on Friday.
Two roosters/chickens and a white dove were found in a garbage bag with their heads removed on Holland Drive near Route 52.

"Extremely shocking," said one man who lives in the area.
While people who live and work in the area say this is surprising, officials with the Putnam County SPCA say they are tracking an increase in these kinds of cases.
"We've been seeing an uptick since the spring," says Chief Ken Ross with the Putnam County SPCA.
Chief Ross says they've seen about 10 similar cases so far this year alone.
Back in April, News 12 reported about two other mutilated birds that were found inside a garbage bag in Lake Carmel, not far from this latest case.
Ross says these cases could possibly be the result of ritualistic killings. The Putnam County SPCA is investigating.
