There's a new plan to save millions in funding for Hudson Valley firefighters.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) announced his new bill at the Cold Spring Fire Department to save "AFG" and "SAFER".
Schumer says the two programs he helped create are essential funding streams that have provided over $13 million to Westchester and Putnam fire departments in the last three years to make sure our departments are well staffed and equipped.
But Schumer says without federal action, the programs will run out of money this year. "So, all we need to do is pass it. It'll pass the House. I believe it has bipartisan support, and we can continue these programs. And I will try to get increased funding for these programs as well because I believe in them," says Schumer.
The majority leader says he hopes to pass a bill this month to save those programs.
