Counterterrorism units were out in full force at Rockland County shopping areas Thursday.
Law enforcement officials were all over the state to make sure residents feel safe during the holiday weekend.
Fliers were handed out at the Palisades Center Mall, encouraging shoppers to be aware of what's going on around them and to say something if they see anything unusual.
Officers were also stationed at malls around Orange and Sullivan counties. Additionally, there was stepped up security at train stations and police were checking commercial vehicles off I-87.
They flagged down trucks, interviewed drivers and checked out vehicles. Police say it's impossible to be everywhere and that's why they need the public's help.
Residents can download the See Something Send Something app. If someone notices something suspicious, they can snap a picture and send it directly to state authorities.
