The Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana began Wednesday evening, marking the Jewish New Year.

"We want to pray for a good year, a happy year, a healthy year, a peaceful year," says Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz with the Greystone Jewish Center Chabad of Yonkers.

Rabbis across Westchester County tell News 12 they are taking extra safety precautions during related events. That includes an increase in police patrols, among other methods.

"We are living in this world, we see what's going on. We're always concerned, and we have to react to those concerns and take different security measures but at the same time, we can't let it impact us," says Hurwitz.

Officers with Yonkers Police tell News 12, they consistently monitor the safety around houses of worship and are staying vigilant.

"It's always on my mind but I have to say that seeing police in and around the area, it gives me more confidence that we will be safe," says Yonkers resident, Harry Baker.
