Students at a Yonkers Catholic school received a special lesson Wednesday afternoon along with a blessing in anticipation of Pope Francis' arrival in New York.
Father Mark Reamer, a Franciscan friar from Siena College in upstate New York, spoke to more than 100 students at St. John the Baptist Church about the upcoming visit of the pope.
The students received medals from the school as a special gift and reminder of the Holy Father and the significance of his name. Each medal was blessed during a special ceremony.
The principal of the school thought the medals could serve as a teaching tool for students to learn about Pope Francis and how he reflects St. Francis' ministry.
