School officials at George Davis Elementary in New Rochelle have shut down all water sources for the rest of the year due to the presence of lead.
The school is located at 80 Iselin Drive in New Rochelle.
Last month, tests showed elevated levels of lead in some fountains.
Now it looks like attempts to resolve the problem may have caused it to spread.
A letter sent to parents said, "The consultants are now concerned that recent flushing of the water system may have circulated potential problems that were previously isolated to one section of the building and we do not want to take any risk."
