“CODA” – the Apple TV film that won best picture at the Academy Awards – is being celebrated Monday at the New York School for the Deaf in Greenburgh.
CODA an acronym that stands for “child of deaf adult.” The film is based about a 17-year-old  who is the only hearing member of a deaf family.
"My family may not understand how I feel at times and I feel my family and the world around us now better understands me and our deaf community. I'm overjoyed," says Manuel Perez, a junior at the school.
Rosy De La Cruz,  a high school and middle school principal at the New York School for the Deaf says the movie is a way to see her own daughter's point of views.
“So many of our students are thrilled about what the future holds and are looking to become actors themselves,” she said.
“CODA” had three Oscar nominations and won all three: actor in a supportive role, adapted screenplay and best picture.
