Most lanes have reopened on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers following a police chase that began in the Bronx and ended near the Cross County Parkway.
All southbound lanes have reopened to traffic, along with the left and center northbound lanes. Officials say the right northbound lane will remain closed overnight.
One suspect was killed by police, and the other was arrested, according to officials.
Police had shut down the parkway in both directions near McClean Avenue for four hours as they investigated. They reopened a single southbound lane just in time for the evening rush.
The fleeing car crashed into another car after making an illegal U-turn and driving down the parkway in the wrong direction, police say.
One suspect fled on foot. He was fatally shot by the responding officers. They later identified him as Miguel Espinal, a 36-year-old Florida man who was out on parole.
The other suspect, Akeem Smith, a 25-year-old from Yonkers, was arrested and transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx along with a civilian bystander whose car had been struck.
