Tornado watches have been issued in parts of the Hudson Valley.

To prepare for any possible developing conditions, you should stay away from doors, windows, outside walls and ultimately protect your head, according to the National Weather Service.

In general, try to get as low as you can. The best places to be during a tornado are a basement below ground level or the lowest floor of a building. If you can't go into a basement, try to go into a small room like a closet or bathroom. You could also get under something sturdy like a heavy table.

For anyone who happens to be on the roads or outside during a tornado, the National Weather Service says you should stay close to areas that can provide shelter. If you can't do that, stay in your car and cover your head for protection.

One thing you should not do is take shelter under a highway overpass. That's where wind speeds can increase due to a tunneling effect.
