Community members gathered Sunday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Hartsdale to honor the legacy of Peter Woods while helping save lives through blood donation.

The church has hosted blood drives for 25 years, and this weekend marked the sixth year the event was held in Woods’ honor. Woods was a retired NYPD sergeant and first responder during the Sept. 11 attacks, spending more than six months working at Ground Zero. He later battled 9/11‑related illnesses for 15 years before his death in January 2021.

Organizers say each donation helps carry forward Woods’ message of making a difference and ensures his impact on the community continues.
