One day after the release of a dire unemployment report, dozens of job hunters gathered at the County Center in White Plains, vying for some 1,200 summer jobs at Rye Playland.
Playland officials say most of the applicants for summer jobs are typically teenagers, but with the economy in a bind and the jobless rate at 8.1 percent, they are seeing a growing number of adult job seekers.
"I'm retired, and I have low income," says Dorothy Colangelo. "[I] really could use it for the summer."
The management of the amusement park is looking to fill a wide range of positions for the summer, including ride operators and lifeguards. Another job fair will be held at the County Center April 4.
