Rye and Greenburgh are stepping in to help community members during the loss of SNAP benefits.

Greenburgh Town Hall reinstated its Formula Initiative, and a pop-up food drive was held on Purchase Street in Rye.

SNAP benefits have not been renewed this month.

Greenburgh's Formula Initiative, which is a COVID-era program, allows residents to donate sealed and unexpired baby food and formula in its Town Hall lobby for families to take what they need.

In Rye, volunteers set up a pop-up food drive on Purchase Street and placed other food donation locations within Rye polling sites.

Both programs aim to assist with the loss of SNAP benefits in the community.

"My heart was breaking that all these families are under so much stress...like, how do you look at your kid, sleeping in the next room, saying how am I going to feed you?" said event organizer, Laura Pellegrini.

According to Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, around 73,000 Westchester County residents rely on SNAP to afford food.
