A car split in half after hitting a utility pole in Monmouth County early this morning.

Police say the crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Route 9 south near Taylors Mills Road in Manalapan, in front of a Shell gas station. The bottom of the pole was shattered, though the top portion remained standing with wires still attached.

When crews arrived, the vehicle had broken into two pieces. Two tow trucks removed each half. A light pole in the gas station lot was also destroyed.

Police say the driver was taken to a hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. There is no word yet on the driver’s identity or why the vehicle left the roadway.

No other injuries were reported.
