A loon that was stuck in a fishing line in the Long Island Sound was rescued on Monday.

Strong Island Animal Rescue League tells News 12 that it got a call about the loon being stuck in Port Jefferson Harbor.

Frankie Floridia, a member of the rescue, waded out with a pair of snips and cut the wire free, while trying to avoid the sharp beak of the bird as it tried to defend itself.

The loon was successfully contained and rushed to Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown where the rest of the wire was removed. The loon is expected to be released tomorrow, according to Strong Island.
