A portion of Route 202 will soon be renamed the Captain Kenneth Sgroi Memorial Highway.
State Assemblymember Matt Slater and Sen. Pete Harckham made this announcement after their bill was signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Captain Sgroi, a lieutenant in the Yorktown Police Department, passed away suddenly from an abrupt illness in January at the age of 37.
The department posthumously promoted him to captain in recognition of his dedication and service.
A specific date for the official renaming of the road is yet to be announced.
