With only a few days left until the election, Republicans rallied in New City on Thursday to get out the vote in an effort to shore up support for their candidates on the ballot, including Mike Lawler, who is seeking reelection for New York's 17th Congressional District.
His race against Mondaire Jones is one of a handful of seats that could help decide control of Congress.
"We have a responsibility in five days to make sure that we not only win this district,” said Rep. Lawler. "But that we have a Republican majority that can work with Donald Trump our next president of the United States of America."
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was in town to back Lawler.
"If you vote for Mike Lawler, you are casting a vote to preserve the greatest nation in the history of the world,” said Speaker Johnson. "In this district, every single vote counts, right? Every single vote. We cannot leave anything on the field this time."
In response to speaker Johnson’s visit, Mondaire Jones said "Mike Lawler is campaigning with the most extreme Speaker of the House in modern history."
