Rockland County officials held a meeting Wednesday to work on a plan to help ease overcrowding at state parks.
County officials, state police, local law enforcement and EMS officials met at the Rockland Fire Training Center to discuss overcrowding issues. The meeting comes after major overcrowding problems at Rockland Lake State Park this Fourth of July.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says there was overcrowding at the north end of the park. He believes the crowding issue was a result of the pool opening at the park. The parking lot in that section of the park became full and resulted in people parking illegally on the sides of the road and on the lawns of nearby homes. Hoehmann says several fights broke out as a result.
Hoehmann says that's why going forward there will be a plan in place to ease congestion on holidays.
Officials say with Labor Day approaching, they plan to direct traffic to the south lot of the park and ticket drivers who park illegally.
