A defunct deal to buy the Summit Park Nursing Home in Rockland now has hundreds of patients scrambling to find new homes.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day announced Thursday that Summit Park Nursing Home will now begin to be disassembled after a $32 million deal with Sympaticare CEO Shalom Braunstein fell through.
The facility is now set to close Dec. 31, but Braunstein says he can still buy it by that date.
Braunstein is asking Rockland officials to give him more time to buy the cash-strapped, county-owned facility in Pomona after missing an extended Sept. 30 deadline.
Day says Braunstein has interfered with patient care and put the county at financial risk by missing the deadline.
However, Braunstein says that's not the case. "We're still committed to this project and we just ask the county - we're committed buyers. We have the funds. We're ready to do this before the end of the year."
The county denied a request by Braunstein to extend the deal deadline to Dec. 31.
